Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar (formerly Guru Jambheshwar University) is a State University established on October 20, 1995 by an Act of the Legislature of the State of Haryana to facilitate and promote studies and research in emerging areas of higher education with a focus on new frontiers of technology, pharmacy, environmental studies, non-conventional sources energy and management studies and also to achieve excellence in these and connected fields. It was formally inaugurated on November 1, 1995. It is named after Guru Jambheshwar Ji Maharaj, a saint environmentalist of 15th century.

The University is situated at Hisar, a rapidly growing town at a distance of 167 Km. from Delhi on Delhi - Rohtak - Hisar- Sirsa - Fazilka National Highway (NH-9) and 231 Km. from Chandigarh on NH-152. The University is spread over a sprawling area of about 372 acres. The campus is laid out with picturesque landscape, numerous buildings of various designs and wide road network. It presents a spectacle of harmony in architecture and natural beauty. Approximately, 275 acres of land has been developed providing with all facilities such as water supply, street lighting, electricity supply and parks/ lawns etc. The University has two cafeterias with the facility of big dining hall, kitchen, store etc. Besides, there is a Shopping Centre where several facilities, such as saloon, laundry, post office, bookshop, bank with ATM facility, grocery shop, sweets shop, milk parlor, shop for mementoes, souvenirs, cards, computer and photocopying facilities, etc. are available.

The University has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) for recognition of degrees on 11.1.1996 and under section 12(B) of the UGC Act to be eligible for central assistance on 7.2.1997. The University has been accredited A Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), in 2002 as grade 'A' and has been re-accredited as grade 'A' with (CGPA 3.26), in 2009. Thereafter, the University has also been re-accredited third time as A Grade with (CGPA 3.28) by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore for a period of five years from 10.12.2014 to 09.12.2019 and further extended for two years i.e., upto 09.12.2021. At present, the University is A+ Grade NAAC accredited University from 18.10.2022 to 17.10.2027 with a CGPA of 3.38 in the fourth cycle of accreditation. Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Central Instrumentation Laboratory is a well acclaimed laboratory which not only provides facilities to researchers of the University but also caters to the research needs of other Institutions of the region. The University has well sought-after Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Innovation and Incubation Centre and Start-Up Schemes to foster innovative ideas of its students. The University has received highest grants in Haryana State from RUSA, MHRD for this centre. The University has been ranked among 1001-1200 Rank Band in the globally prestigious Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023. The University has also been ranked in 601-800 rank band in the Physical Sciences subject category in the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2023.The University has also been ranked 401-500 in The Times Higher Education Emerging Economies University Rankings 2022. The University has added another feather of international recognition in the form of securing rank between 351-400 in the globally renowned Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2022.

GJU&ST is the only University from Haryana to mark its presence in these prestigious rankings. In the NIRF Rankings 2022, the University has secured 33rd rank in Pharmacy Category,101-150 rank band in the University Category and 102-125 Rank band in Management Category. In the Atal Ranking of Institutional Innovations and Achievements (ARIIA-2020) by the Education Ministry, Govt. of India, the University has been ranked in BAND A between 6th-25th in August 2020, in the Govt. and Govt. Aided Universities Category. The University has been granted graded Autonomy and UGC has placed it in Category-II University. It is one amongst the 21 State Universities of the Country to have achieved this position. This University has also been admitted for the 3rd time for Global Initiative Academic Network (GIAN) Phase-III Scheme, a prestigious scheme of MHRD. The University has been ranked 494th World Most Sustainable University in 2021 in UI Green Matric World University Rankings announced by University of Indonesia, Jakarta. The University has been awarded 1st Prize at State level for spreading awareness about Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse. The efforts of the University are recognized by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Haryana by rewarding it with a cash prize. The University has constantly motivated and encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration and Research. Around 3312 research papers have been published by the faculty in peer reviewed journals of repute which are listed in SCOPUS with about 62723 citations. The h-index of the University was 102 in June 2022. This is the highest h-index of any University in the State of Haryana. Average Paper Citation is 17.12 which is also highest in the region. Numerous research projects have been completed in different departments and there are several ongoing research projects being handled by our faculty. The University has acquired FIST grant from the DST and grant under SAP programme by UGC. The University has been sanctioned DST-PURSE grants of Rs. 10.25 Crores for research.

I welcome you to this seat of higher learning which has the honour of having been thrice accredited 'A' grade and once 'A+' grade by National Assessment & Accreditation Council. In my considered view your decision to choose this University for shaping your careers in the field of Science & Technology is well thought out and appropriate. It is now widely accepted that this is an institution with a difference in terms of state-of-the-art infrastructure, good governance, teaching-learning processes, student support and progression and peaceful environment. All these things have resulted in a positive attitude of stakeholders towards this institution, consideration by funding and accreditation agencies and support from the State Government. Recently the University has been chosen as one of the few universities of the country for Global Initiative for Academic Network (GIAN). In this programme, the faculty from developed countries will be invited to strengthen our academic programmes. This has made us feel more responsible and responsive towards all the stakeholders including the students, parents, government and the society in general.

The market in Kolkata during those days was dominated by Marwaris. Chhaju Ram, who had a good knowledge of Hindi and English, did correspondence work for the Seths and came to be known as munshiji. He was a talented person. During the process of correspondence with trading-firms, he got sufficient knowledge about trade. He got the trade secrets of dalali business. He started first the trade of old bags and later on shifted to new bags trade. He was, by this time, counted as a known dalal of Kolkata.
